It's more than four years since I graduated from high school, but I still feel like a school kid at times like this. There is a party happening tonight for a friend of mine who's tying the knot soon. Most of my school friends will be there, but I've totally branched out from them so much that I don't like their company anymore. These friends of mine didn't really complete school as they left after the tenth or eleventh grade. They did other studies, got married and have their own families now. They are all comfortably off. And, in the meantime, I carved my own niche of friends and work that I'm comfortable with, and I feel uncomfortable meeting my old friends after such a long time. It's like we have NOTHING in common now. To make matters work, I'm single. A few friends have commented on it in the past, and it really hurt me although I didn't show it. Contrary to what they think, I really am sought after, but I'm picky about my choice of mate. They just see me as a failure. Help!

im from la(brentwood) hence ive developed the la "attitude" and in la we have our own little groups but here in pa(moved to a little hicktown for work) everyone knows eachother but im interested in meeting guys(in a non sexual way) to party and hang out with. theres plenty of girls cuz they assume im rich(not true but ill take it) but hell im damnnear broke. and everyone considers me ignorant for the way i act.but its how everyone from brentwood acts..so anyway any ideas to make some friends(besides be yourself blah blah cuz obviously thats not gonna work)

I have been with the same guy for 8 months. He regularly says he loves me and I love him. We both live in a city where we are both not from. He doesn't have a lot of friends here and neither do I yet, but a lot of my friends visit etc, so he's met quite a few of them. However, here's where the problem starts... I have never met ANY of his friends. His home town is only a few hours from here (mine is 1700 miles) and somehow we've met 10 of mine and NONE of his! Now we are finally going to his town next weekend and he's acting all stressed and weird... I don't know what to do.

a. there is something that his friends know about him that he doesnt want you to know about and hes afraid they'll spill the beans.

b. hes afraid his friends wont approve, or will treat him differently or something of that sort.

in any case you need to confront him and ask him why

alright.

the guy that im going out with now, i went out with him a year ago.

i met his friends(some of them) before like when we last went out.

and i feel like i totally made a fool outta myself.(it was at a skating rink and i fell on my butt and barly tlked half the time cause im really shy meeting new people.)

so this time we are all going to a corn maze.

its his friends and their girlfriends and different ones from the rink.

they all go to school together.

i feel like im gonna be the odd man out as it is. and then im always just quiet.

I know just how you feel. My b/f has really different friends and they all act stupid when they get together. What I do is just back away and be perfectly polite. Don't sugar coat anything, but be really nice and nothing can go wrong.
Reply:ya i went through this last weekend...it was a bit awkward i must admit only cuz i didnt really know anyone or what they were talking about, but the guy i was with was nice enough to bring me in on the convo and let me know what they were talking about and asking my opinion on it...im a really shy girl so most of the time i was just quietly sitting there, but whenever a topic came up that i could put my input in, i did...so just look out for those moments and don't be shy when they arise...don't assume they think you're wierd or stupid or whatever cuz that's what i tend to do...just be confident and offer your opinion and be nice and im sure you will be fine...overall, just have a good time...if a moment should arise where you have been sitting quietly for too long and you start feeling wierd, just like pick up your phone and text message a friend or call someone and excuse yourself or something just to occupy yourself and show them that you're not just bored out of your mind around them...be yourself, have a good time

i just moved 1200 miles for a new job and because my wife and i always wanted to live in florida. my problem is meeting people, and making friends, i'm shy and have a problem with trust. my wife and i get along fine, thats not what i'm looking for. there are somethings a man just can't talk to with his wife, i'm just missing having friendships. the friends i've had before i moved were people that i grew up with or people that i worked with for 19 years. where i'm working now the only peson i have much contact with is my boss and there won't be a friendship forming there. other people there, there just isn't opportunity for much conversation. i know this is pretty pathitic i'm 42 years old and i don't know how to make friends or where to even look. i don't like the idea of the chat rooms on the computer, that seems so impersonal. any ideas or suggestions. only serious responses please.

try looking into your town's recreation dept, i know ours has men's basketball once a week and stuff like that. do you have kids? if you have school age kids you could try chatting it up with the other dads at soccer games and things like that. how is your wife at making friends? my husband complains when i drag him along to couple things but then he usually ends up having a good time chatting with the other guys. if your wife is more social than you, maybe she could set up a game night or a couples night out or something like that. or what about having a neighborhood barbecue and getting to know your neighbors?

whatever you decide to do, the important thingis to put yourself out there. it can be scary at first but the more you get out and talk to people the less akward it gets. good luck, hope i could help:)
Reply:Try joining an organization based on any hobbies you have... if you play an instrument/sing, maybe there's an orchestra/band/choir in your town. Join the gym, you'll always see the same people at the same time of day. Or do a couples class with your wife, like cooking or something. If you're a religious person, church etc. is a good way to meet people too. Any of these things can unexpectedly turn into a way to meet people with similar interests.

May sound simple but get a job! I relocated to VA from GA a year ago. I was pregnant so I didn't work for the remainder of my pregnancy (and also didn't get out much.) So I was very lonely and bored, but once I got a job, my life has changed tremendously! Now my coworkers and I go to Happy Hours and lunch, and all types of fun stuff! Good luck.
Reply:Make sure you just get out and talk to new people everywhere you go. Go to the local bar and start talking to people. If you are too young for the bar go to a park or a mall and just start talking. A job is also a good place to meet people. You are forced to talk to different people everyday and it is a good place to meet people that wont turn out to be psyco's.

A co worker and me met some guys over a year now, one of them we met 2 times for business, the guy flirted but we checked he's married and hitted on both of us but more with me. 2 months after he left cuz he did shorlty afterwards I had to address him again and he inmediately replied to my surprise saying he remembered me so well. So we began friends, he talks about his family and when he change location and moved to a different state he even notify me. We address each other as dear friends. My question is I don't want any trouble with him cuz he's far away and do like him as friend, but how do I really know if he thinks the same? You've known each other for four years? Sounds like a safe enough choice to meet however, bring someone along like a trusted friend or if you can't, make sure everyone knows what you're doing and where you're going to be.

Make sure they know who this person from the USA looks like. Give them his/her phone number and also, keep your phone handy...these are just precautions....

Reply:Since you're 19, it's not like you would be sneaking off to catch a plane or anything. There's nothing wrong with meeting someone you've had contact with for 4 years. I am a friendly attractive girl who gets lots of attention from the boys and I don't get to go out much at night, i am 21yo also. I know that shaking off your old friends is hard. look for some new friends, be open, and while you take trips like to the grocery store, smile at some people, adn talk to the cashiers and everyone. you don't really have to do something particularly to be someon's friend. be yourself, and NEVER BE SOMEONE ELSE. you'll just end up with friends - like, say, a nerd, just cuz you want good friends, and you won't be comfortable with them. in the meantime, try to convince YOUR friends to stop. if you can get them to stop, maybe you'll have them, and new friends. good luck! ;D

Hello! What you are asking is extremely easy in most parts of Cyprus and Greece..You just have to talk a lot! Buy a book beforehand that has some dialogs in greek and try to pronounce things like kalimera!( Good morning ) and then arm yourself with a smile and get out there... ( To be honest I found this method to work in almost every country I stayed in...It's just that the rate of success here is higher!)

I met of my closes friends in pre-school. My first friend named Christopher or Chris I met on the first day. He chose to be my friend and just started talking to me out of no where and showed me the weird thing he could do with his finger. Since then we became friends. My other friend that I met in pre-school name is Andrea. At first she seemed to hate me. I still remember the time she pushed me off the climbing giant diamond thing. I actually broke my leg it wasnt to bad though. Her mom is my moms friend and made her apologize and then some how we became friends. I really dont remember how. I also met another friend in kindergarten. He was trying to build something and knocked my friend,Andrea over and took her blocks and andrea just pushed him and I dont really remember anything else. Do you think your best friends will last a lifetime? I still see them every day and we are still VERY close. But I just started middle school though.

Hahahha my poor unfortunate best friend's name is Isaac Corbin Rossi. I hated his first name so I renamed him Cor. We met when our parents set up a play date because his mom and my mom were best friends and they wanted us to become good friends. I, at the time, was the most wretched little thing to walk the earth. I had a strong personality and I walked all over him. I was awful to him, I miss treated him, I broke his toys, I yelled at him and called him names, I even tried to cut him with siccors. I treated him like dirt and for some reason I cant figure out, he stuck by me even carrying me all the way back to my house when I skinned my knee when I was 7. He is by far the nicest, sweetest, person I know and he always does what I say (a habit left over from when he was like my slave when we were children)

We are still going strong and after about 11 or 12 years of friendship and him living in a different state for a while we are still best friends. Now we are both in high school and everything is going fine. I am even dating him which is a bit awkward but still really nice.

Anyhow I would give you a B. Your story is nice but it could use a bit more detail and some better transitions. If you don’t remember something make it up its that easy. Trust me I have done this for almost all of my English papers this year and it’s worked so far.

I think your guy friends will stick together although girls tend to drift apart if you guys really try I am sure you all can stay friends through middle school and beyond.

The last bit of advise I could give is just make sure to tell them that you are still friends and you hope never to lose what you have.

I have posted several questions regarding this and I still haven't gotten any really good suggestions. Some people tell me to approach people while I am out. I have done that before, or more less tried to compliment another woman's outfit, hair or jewerly. I just tried to spark up a random conversation. Most women will look at you like you're crazy. Especially if they're with their clique of friends. People just aren't friendly no matter how you approach them.

People my age tend to have kids and/or busy lives, whereas it's just me and my husband and we have way too much time on our hands. We both work full-time Monday through Friday, but the evenings and weekends are usually spent sitting around the house or we'll go out to eat (which we do often). We do get out once a month or so to go see a movie, and once a year we'll take a weekend trip in town but that's it. My husband's friends are mostly single and there's been no connection with those that are married.

There are many people out there who probably feel like you (bored in a new location and would like friends) but are either too shy or self conscious to take the first step of introduction. Do you have a favorite activity? There are often clubs for different hobbies, or maybe you could sign up for volunteer work. Volunteer work can be a great way to meet locals. Just be yourself and good luck.

I am in my 30's and the woman I am seeing is in her late 20's. We met about 5 months ago and started dating a bout 4 months ago. Things were really good and we talked all the time and went out a couple of times a week. We live about an hour apart so it is a challenge sometimes. Lately she has had a lot going on in her life, death of an aunt, sister got pregnant, and work problems. I understand all of that and have gave her space to deal with it, but it seems like lately she doesnt' answer my texts or just a short one line and not answering my questions. She doesn't take a lot of my calls and I have to schedule a time to talk with her. Anyway yesterday I asked her why she didn't want me to meet her friends. She said that until she was sure I was here to stay she was ready to make that introduction. She said she has always been that way. She says she loves me all time time and I believe her but I keep getting insecure becausue of the mixed messages.

Its hard to say, maybe shes had alot of things in her life that have left and so thinks youll do the same. Why introduce you to her friends if "youre not going to be around". I use to have a bad habit of introducing my new significant other way too soon to my friends. It would then not work out. That and you said she might just have alot of things going on in her head she has to deal with. Im not saying that you are, but do you think you are giving to her too much? I know I used to go overboard and pay too much attention to that person.

I live in a city in Ontario, Canada. I moved here four years ago and it isn't a large city. I'm 29 married with three kids and don't have a lot of time. I have tried parks and other children's parents, but for the most part they are all a lot older then I am. So not a lot in common. I am uncomfortable in large groups. So classes and courses are out. I know my area library has a book club %26amp; I like books so I would check out the local book clubs %26amp; see what they have on the bullentin boards. I would take walks in different areas. IOur paper always has activities. Even if you do these things %26amp; the people are older than you I would do it anyway because the more people you meet the more you can meet from them. They all have family %26amp; friends %26amp; can invite you to a cook out where you will meet more people, etc.

After having had no friends for 26 years. I went to school and all, i've had jobs.. but i really do not have the skill to make any friends. I used to go to dance class for 1 month , that didn't result in any friends, but at the time i started feeling like i was part of something, then i got my knees messe d up and i quit..But now after 6 months of that injury, i want to get back to doing something..But makinfriends..is just something i do'nt have skill in...I can make my sisters 5 year old my friend, because i'm kind of dumb and immature but i can teach him things and he likes me, that feels great. I'm a simple person, i teach him lots of things, i talk to him, i share things with him, I feel he is my friend.. But with strangers, people my age, they are so different , they are mature and have great speaking skills...i feel always that i dn't fit in with them. that they will think i'm stupid.

This is a start -- by asking questions on yahoo.answers. You should get some good advice here. The thing I can tell you is that you should be friends with people who like to do the things you like to do -- maybe not all the same things, but some.

Also, start out first by being acquaintances with people, not friends. Friendships seem to grow from these over time. Some are just casual friendships; other might very well develop into close friendships.

Other suggestions where you can meet people:

1. Church/synagogue

2. Volunteering

3. At work -- but remember not everybody wants to be friends outside of work but still, it is nice to have some workplace friends, just to talk to every once and a while.

4. Another class like your dance class -- even if it is a temporary situation, it's a good place to practice your friendship making skills.

5. Some recreational activity that you can do with a group.

You write very well, so I certainly don't think you are stupid. So give yourself some credit for your communication skills.

In my life, when my friendship web goes belly up, I rely on my family more -- to see me through the rough spots. Doing that might help you feel better too. Also, friends or acquaintances you already might have could introduce you to other people too. I can remember once, when I was about your age, I seemed to acquire a lot of new friends who somehow were associated with my best friend at the time -- or they were sort of one or two people away from my best friend -- not really friends with him but somehow associated with people he knew some way.

Also, you might be lucky to come across someone who is looking for a new friends right at this moment. That is what happened to me once when I was in school: one guy just moved and his close friend didn't have a buddy to do things with so we just started to hang around together and hit it off pretty well. It wasn't a frienship that really lasted, I have to admit that, but it was a lifesaver for me at the time.

I hope this helps you. I have been fortunate in my life to have a few close and dear friends, but I also know what it is like to lose friends due to death, marriage, etc.

One thing I also have to tell you too is that your new friends do not necessarily have to be all males either; platonic female friends are really helpful when it comes to emotional support.

Just have conversations with some strangers and then the more you see and speak to them, you will develop a friendship with at least one of them. Friends multiply by being around each other, so one friend breeds two, etc..... So once you have one friend you will soon have two, and so on. Show yourself friendly and you will do ok.

Be sure you listen cause everyone likes to be heard but at the same time say what you want to too. If you are a bit quiet that is okay. Do not think you are stupid. Sounds more like you are socially deprived and that can make you feel a bit out of the ballpark . I think the main reason you get along so well with your little nephew is you feel he is not judging you whereas around others you feel they might be. Do not think everyone is smarter then you, they may just have a better gift of gab (talk) having had more practice. Find what interests you and find people who have the same interests. If you ever do feel you need more knowledge get to the library and learn more, not to keep up with them but to please yourself . We should all learn at least one new thing a day. I think you will do fine but give yourself more credit. Last but not least, get out to places where you can meet people. Go to the coffee house, the library, the gym, church, where ever there are people. Smile, say hi, remark on the weather, current events or whatever is the issue of the day. Good luck!

If you mean in the real world, I'm pretty shy and whenever I feeel lonely I just hang out somewhere... the library, the park, a book shop... eventually someone comes up and has a chat. Consider joining or attending meetings of an organization. Your area may have alumni associations from your college or sorority. You can join volunteer groups, women's clubs, church groups. Consider taking up a new sport, my area has amateur groups for tennis, golf, etc. Just pick anything that interests you. Even if you don't want to become a regular member you will meet people in the process who may become great friends or introduce you to even more people.

Where are all the ambitious people hiding? Most people I know are too complacent with their lives and are too afraid and/or comfortable to go out on a limb once in a while. I have several business ideas that I would like to try, but i don't have all the resources to do it on my own. It would be nice to find people with whom I could share some ideas. I know that it is important to surround oneself with the right people in order to be successful, however most of my friends are lazy and lack the drive to follow through on anything. well it would be good to get a job commensurate with your abilites. there you would meet people at your level. or take honors classes in college (if you are that age) etc. work or school is your best bet for getting in a situation with others that are ambitious. worked for me and it worked for my daughter. she works in washington DC for a member of congress and i think she finally feels she is among peers. another thing is work downtown in a big city. or in washington DC, where ambitous people concentrate. Get into a PhD program - ambitious people are there, too.

I am a lesbian and I have been with my girl n her 3 kids for about a year and a half now. These past few months its been a little rocky between the 2 of us mainly cause I got mad alot for little things and would yell alot, n she was not showing me love anymore so I told her I would change n be bac to my old self. Pretty soon we should be moving to another house and I found out that one of our friends had already seen the house because she had planned to leave me but finally didnt cause I was changing. I think you're overreacting...again.
Reply:Friends are completely separate from relationships. Your girl probably wanted an outsider's perspective and your friends were concerned about her. Have you honestly never wanted to talk to someone OTHER than her about your relationship? Sometimes it's easier, and a better decision.

I am really at a loss when it comes to this. I moved to Texas 4 ½ years ago and it has been literally IMPOSSIBLE to meet new friends who actually want to hang out from time to time. I am 30 years old, married with no children. I got married 3 ½ years ago, but most of my husband’s friends are single. He has two that are married but one of them is married to his ex-girlfriend’s best friend so his wife doesn’t like me for whatever reason. We hang out with the other couple once maybe twice a year and that’s it. She always seems interested when we’re together but I found myself doing all the calling so I stopped. I went over to her house to visit a few times, but that’s only because I suggested we hang out. She borrowed $20 from me three or four months ago and never paid it back. I called her just to tak one day and she had company so I told her to call me back. Two months passed and I didn’t hear from her until last Monday. She called and wanted to know why I hadn’t called her.

Yeah I know how you feel. It is pretty hard to find friends that you could really connect with. I am 29 years old. We moved to New Jersey 5 years ago and I have a 4 year old. I just recently took my son to children's activities so I can meet other parents. I don't have any real friends yet. They are just acquaintances to me. I only have 1 childhood friend that I communicate with on email and she lives in Texas and she's a single mom so she really doesn't have time and can't afford to come visit me and we can't afford to visit her. So far I've invited 3 families over to our house for dinner and I can not seem to click with any of them yet on a deeper level.

1 of the moms I've invited over was a vegetarian and she never told me that she was one until I served her thanksgiving turkey, she is paranoid about eating certain kinds of foods and her thoughts are always negative and her husband doesn't have any etiquette because when I greeted her husband with a hug, he stood there like a dang old corpse. I recently broke my relationship with this mom.

Another mom doesn't talk that much in person. Its hard to have a conversation with her. She doesn't make an effort getting together. She doesn't have any etiquette either (long story). I invited them to dinner and at least they ate everything. They said they are gonna invite us over but they still haven't.

Another mom is self centered. She always talks about her daughter and her life. I have always been supportive and asked about her life and always listen to her. She rarely asks about my life. Our conversation is always one sided cuz it's always about her. When her and her family came over for Christmas dinner, she dressed up her 1 year old daughter is a big red poofy dress which was kinda over the top to me. We gave them a bunch of leftover food to take home with them and they said they would invite us over to their house but haven't heard from them yet.

Anywho, I am always the first person who always makes the first initiative to getting together and to get things moving. I always email or call first. It is lonely to not have any friends. I am still searching for my "Ethel".

Do you work? If not, consider a part-time job that uses your interests. Gardening, work in a nursery - Baking, work in a bakery -

Maybe you and your husband could join something or take lessons together where you'd meet couples who share your interests.

You need to stop focusing on searching for "friends". People will come and go throughout your life. But you will probaly get a very small amount of FRIENDS.

You and your husband need to put yourselves in places and events that have people that are more compatible to you.

Go volunteer at the recreation center, church or other place that needs Adults with free time. (Most people have kids which interfers with volunteering). Go coach a neighborhood softball,drill or step team.

Join the your neighborhood crime watch and civic association. Once you start putting yourself with unselfish people you will enjoy giving yourself. You will meet non competetive women and have a different perspective on what life is all about.
Reply:Okay, please don't take this the wrong way. I've seen a lot of your questions on here (Y/A) and while I don't pretend to know you-I think I have an idea about your personality.

You seem very set in your ways, i.e. this is wrong, that's right, etc., etc. That can be hard to take sometimes. I've wanted to answer some of your other questions, but I didn't want you to get mad and take it the wrong way. But, I don't think you're aware of how you come across. You have a very strong personality-while there isn't anything wrong with that per se, it can be very hard to make new friends or get along with people when your personality is very dominant.

My suggestions to you would be to relax. It isn't your job to govern the world or to change everything about it. It's like the serenity prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can;

and wisdom to know the difference.

I think people don't want to be 'bothered' with you because you may seem too uptight for them. And mainly, people just want to relax and enjoy the moment, not have someone pick apart every moment.

I think you mean well (from what I can gather from here) and you seem like a very nice, caring person. Just take a deep breath, stop overanalizing everything and enjoy the wonderful things that you do have going for you now. If you do that every thing else will come in time.
Reply:Well, I don't know you or what you do all day, but if you want to meet people (as friends) get out there. Volunteer with an organization that you are interested in - that way you are meeting people with similar interests and who are hopefully not so flaky if they are responsible enough to actually work with an organization (this isn't foolproof, but it may be a start).

Also, take a hard, honest look at yourself. Could you be doing something that would cause someone not to want to hang out with you?

Good luck, I know it's hard making friends once you become an adult, but sometimes if you can meet one good friend, they'll introduce you to a larger group.

Reply:You need to find something else to do and meeting new people will happen naturally. Some women, are terrible at keeping friendships when they are in a relationship. You seem to know there is a benefit to not having all your focus on your husband.

I've found most people are out for themselves. If you want to hang out only a couple times a month, you are not gonna like everything these people do. If they cannot stop calls from boyfriends during your "hang" time, they gotta go.

The thing is, the older ya get, people seem to "disappear". They are into doing their own thing. They do not want to socialize. Especially, since you moved to this new area, some do not want to get out of their ruts...they may even like their misery.

I would reroute my energies into a hobby, instead of people. It's more predictable.

I am looking for suggestions on how adults can meet and make new friends. It seems to get more difficult the older my husband and I get to meet new people. We are late 20s-early 30s, one child, %26amp; we do not drink or smoke so bars are out of the question.

Any tips for adults on how to meet new friends?
You can do volunteer work--my sister and her kids volunteer at Ronald McDonald House and have met some nice other volunteers who have the same basic social values. Or you can organize (or get involved in) one of the Habitat for the Humanities house building projects (if they don't have one in your area, make it happen). Volunteer at the SPCA if you've got one of those (and if you like animals). Figure out the things you all like to do (individually and as a family) and focus in on places that will be interesting for you and where other people will have like-interests--it's easier to start a conversation if you are among folks who enjoy the same thing. And make sure you chat a lot, just say to the family standing next to you something like "don't you just LOVE [whatever it is the function is]? We're new to this ..." and just carry on indicating that you'd like to meet more people of similar interest. Eventually, after you meet enough people, you will filter out those that aren't what you feel you'd enjoy hanging with. But you have to put yourselves out there and not just huddle together as a family so no one feels like breaking in. If you have hobbies, look into groups that meet for that. Does you child play sports? Sign him/her up for some sports and make it to the meets so you can meet other parents. If you have a local bookstore that feels good to you, ask one of the storekeepers if they know of a book club (if you're into that) you could join and if there is not one, maybe you could ask if you could start one and post a note in the store. Start a walking group (small gang who goes out walking for exercise and fun)--can be just in the major mall (walking is sweeter with company). Or a movie discussion group (like a book club but using movies instead as the focus of teh discussion). It's getting near election time so you could volunteer to sign up voters in your area (you'd get to know your neighbors) or work for your favorite politician. Get involved at your child's school--some schools need parent volunteers (both parents) and you'd get a good idea of what is going on in the school (you could then be the one to organize bake sales, book drives and school dances). One of my local churches offers square and folk dancing once a week and you don't have to be a member of the church or even believe in religion. The local museums have lecture nights on various subjects. There are docet tours of some of the local attractions (you might want to do that) or conduct a walking tour of your local attractions. See what your community has to offer. Or make your own offerings and invite the world to join in. But you have to make it all happen for yourselves.
Reply:You guys sound awesome. To meet others who take care of themselves too try joining a local gym club. Both of you will have a chance to meet others and then each of you can introduce their spouses to yours.

Also as your child grows up and goes to preschool, then you will meet a TON of other parents, but until the school parent meetings get going the gym is a great place. It aslo has a great side effect of getting in shape. BTW most also have a baby sitting area so your baby can play as you get fit and make new friends.

Been knowing my BF for 2 years; officially been together for 6 months. I've asked him to go to BBQ, party, birtyday party, etc with me millions of times. He has truned me down EVERY SINGLE TIME. all of my friends and family know that I'm in a relationship, but they never get to see him. He's only met some ppl by accident. either he was at my place when they came, or he had to pick me up from somewhere and they were there. Even then, he's very distant and will say hi and rush me to leave. He says that he feels like I try to "show him off" but that is not the case. I just simply get tired of attending things and im the only person there without my bf. everyone always asks abt him. he just simply does not like to meet people and says that its not fun being in crowds. But he's fine being in crowds that he knows. when we go to his family's house, i do not sit in the car, i come inside. him on the other hand does not. Reply:He is doing two things in this behavior. One he is keeping you at a distance. If you start doing couples things, you will try to push the relationship to a spot he doesn't want it to go. This way he can string you along for much longer getting what he wants without giving what he doesn't want to. Second, it allows him to keep his options open. He wants to play the field, or at least have that option. If you two are a full blown couple he can't do that.

Reply:Sweetie, if you've been with him for 2 years and he still refuses to do things with your family and friends, you seriously need to think about giving him his walking papers.

Truthfully, the fact that he shows no interest in developing relationships with your family and friends indicates that he probably doesn't view your relationship as long-term, but rather just something that is convenient for him.

Given that he hasn't changed in 2 years, he probably won't change anyway, but if you don't show that you're willing to walk away over this issue, then it definitely won't change.

Personally I'd say you probably need to end the relationship in any case. He sounds like an extremely selfish person, and that is unlikely to change given that it's been 2 years already.

Reply:Well I think you are confused because you are trying to find one solution to two problems.

First you have to sort out the issue with your marriage. Just imagine that there is no fall back guy and only then decide whether you want to try and save the marriage or end it. If you are honest with yourself then you will know the answer. If you do decide it's the end of the road then that's that. This way you can't blame that other guy or be disappointed if he doesn't do the same.

Then it's up to him. The solution to this second problem is a bit beyond your control since he will have to go through the same thing you did.

Well I think the chances are very slim that you two will be together in the end. But it's pretty clear that one or both your families will break up if you take a chance to be together.

I just hope things are really that bad for both of you to want to end your respective marriages and also that after it's over be able to support your kids.

Once again, I have to say Second Life. SL is a huge online world - the next step in online interaction - where you create an avatar who 'lives' in the SL world. And it really is a place where people from all over the world come and meet and socialise. There are now over 5,620,000 residents in Second Life with around 30,000 online at any one time. It's also totally free to join (more on that later).

The best way to describe it is as a giant version of The Sims, but everyone you encounter is played by a real person. Say you want to meet people from Holland. You do a search in 'Groups' or 'Places' and you use the keyword 'Dutch'. That will lead you to lots of people and places in SL where Dutch people congregate. Say you are interested in blues music. Enter 'Blues' as your keyword and you will find groups and places where people listen to blues - including online live blues performers. In fact - ANY interest you have in rl, you will find a group in SL that shares that interest. If for some reason you don't, you can form a group that caters for that interest.

Now here's the great part. When you make a friend in SL, you can meet up with them there. Like you, they have an avatar and some look very lifelike. You can explore places together; go shopping together; go dancing together (real-world DJs/musicians stream music into SL); go to a park and cuddle (or more); even move in together and get married if that takes your fancy.

As you learn more about the world you can begin building things - such as furniture, houses, bridges - even clothes, hair, shoes and skins. And you can sell these things for in-game money (which can be converted back to real-world money). You don't have to do any of this - it's just some of the endless possiblities.

The European media (especially the tabloids) seem to focus on the sex aspects of SL. Unfortunately, this has led to a huge influx of young guys looking for sex and they can be a pain sometimes. However, they are finding that although there is a lot of sex in SL, to get it, they need to invest some money in their avatar's appearance to get anyone to take them seriously and they also need to have a personality to actually start a conversation with a girl. After three or four months of this heavy influx, it seems the 'free sex' myth is starting to die a death and the majority of people coming in are more sensible.

As for making friends - all I can say is that some of the friends I have made in SL are better friends than those I had before SL. Some I have met up with in real life - others I chat to live on Yahoo or Skype. At least one person I know met the love of her life there and they now meet regularly and plan to marry in real life too.

Best of all, it's not only free to download the client software, but free to play as well. There is a Premium option, but my advice is - don't enter your credit card details until you have tried SL for a few days and are sure it's for you. After that, enter your card details. You still don't have to pay anything subscription-wise, but this does allow you to purchase in-world currency. As the purchase of in-world dollars is linked to the US dollar, buying in Pounds Sterling is a very good deal for us Brits right now. 4000 SL dollars will cost around £5 at the moment. To make your avatar look incredibly good (best skin, hair, clothes, shoes and walk) expect to spend around £20-£30. You never need to spend that - there are enough freebies to make your avatar look reasonably good. After that, it's just finding friends there and going and having a good time.

Many of my friends have moved away in the last 3 years and I have noticed that I have no one to really have 'girl time' with. I work for my parents small company, and there is no interaction with anyone my own age. My husband's friends are all guys who are single, and I am wits end on how to meet some new people. I am not trying to sound pathetic here, but it would be nice to get out once in a while.... thank you!

What kind of things do you like to do? Any hobbies. Look to get involved in some groups with similar interest as yourself,. If you like sewing, check into local sewing clubs or needlepoint. Do you have kids? If so get them involved in things like sports, dance, Cubs or Brownies. That way you can meet others and have something in common all ready and it would be easy to start a conversation.

I have no desire to meet his friends, they are low lifes and are always trying to corrupt him into buying drugs etc... he says they want him to help them out. But I say you can help them out by not buying anything and he agrees. He used to be into drugs but dosn't want to anymore. So far he seems to be sticking to his gun, but I'm afraid that he may fall back into the trap.. All the people he knows (besides me) are working girls and drug dealers etc. He spends every night with me, and I know he dosn't want that life anymore but he still keeps in contact with these people. You don't have to meet his friends if you dont want to. But if he introduces you to them, be polite and respectful. You don't want to be seen as a bad person/girlfriend. Just keep your thoughts to yourself.

You start off with small talk. Just trivial things.

I know it sounds and feels a bit corny, but after a while the conversation will drift more to certain things that interest you and one or more of the others too.

Also join a club or group that you're interested in and then conversations have an easier start as the topic is centered around the group interest.

They are actually tuning out the other person. You may find that you have a lot of common interests that will allow you to ask question about how, what, where and when. and I like to party but I came home late at 5:AM and that freaked her out because I lied to her. So now she wants me to let her meet my friends. She does not know any of the people I party with. The rule in our house when our kids get older is that as long as you live in our household you have to live by our rules. I say you need to bring them over. If you want your mom to trust you, then bring them over. If you're worried that your mom isn't going to like them, then maybe you need to think about who your friends are, otherwise you wouldn't have any worries about your mother meeting them!!

Hey there, I'm a bi female too. I don't know where you live, but in my city there's an LGBT community center, and they have a bi support/discussion group. That could be good. If you live in a smaller place, try looking up the resources in bigger towns nearby, and calling them if they have information lines to ask where you can meet people.
