How do I meet new friends in a new town?

I've moved away from the town I grew up in... now I live in a smaller town where I work a lot. At first, I found myself driving hundreds of miles just to spend time with people I've spent my entire life around. But now the old friends are drifting apart and they're moving on with their lives. I'm still single - and 25 - and I feel I have a bit of growing up to do before I can think of taking the marriage leap. But I'm not exactly a social butterfly and I only have a few close friends and most are more than a thousand miles away. How do I meet new people, make new friends and do the social networking thing? I haven't had to do this since college and I feel out of practice. I really value my independence and I love doing things alone, but it'd be nice to have someone to talk to close by or else someone (or some people) to do things with. Any advice would be most welcome.

I will never lose my old friends, but it'd be nice to meet some new ones!

How do I meet new friends in a new town?
I went thru the same thing about a year ago. Making new friends is hard casue its seems like nobody else is interested in making new friends. Try getting friendly with people at your new job. Join groups: a gym, club, get involved with your local church. If your into the bar scene don't be afraid to go out alone. Sometimes you'll see another person who's in the same situation; out alone looking to chat with someone. There are also lots of free singles sites such as plentyoffish.com and okcupid.com...not just to meet a potential boyfriend but just to talk to new people. Keep at it and don't let it get you down. I moved to North Dakota so you can imagine how hard it is for me.
Reply:go and sign up for some thing around town that you like to do then when you go youll already have something in comin with the other people and it want be hard to start a conversation just talk about what your doin at the place you signed up for
Reply:to a base ball game or join a ywca youll meet all kinds of people there.
Reply:How about the people you work with? You say that you spend a lot of time at work, so you're bound to have some similar backgrounds and interests. Suggest going out for dinner or drinks after work. You're sure to hit it off with someone.

And don't underestimate the power of e-mail, letters, and cell phones to keep in touch with your hometown friends! :)
Reply:well , well,

you don't search for friends , . . . . you find them in the journey.........

be patient and you'll see.

good luck......
