What are the best ways to meet people, friends, girls etc when traveling?
I travel in the winter time for 3-4 months every winter. I run a landscape business and stay very busy during the months between middle March and midde November, and do not have really ANY social life much during this time.
I want to meet friends and possibly a girlfriend overseas, but when I travel, I always find myself a bit lonely and difficult to meet people for long term relationships.
What are the best ways to meet , especially a girlfriend you think, in for example , Europe? (if going there)
p.s. I was thinking, if i could take a class or something , like an art class it would be nice , but I really think that would be expensive. but I am thinking of picking a selected city/town to visit and staying in one place (area) for the full 3-4 months this time, instead of traveling around a lot.(as it is interesting, but kind of tiring as well, and lacks depth or appreciation sometimes)

One of my friends is recovering from a near death car accident from March 3rd, yes, still recovering. Anyway my husband and I took him on a cruise and he must have met 30 people by showing off his scars from the accident. Everyone on the ship kept calling him Shark Bite. Get a scar, get a story, its works!!!...j/k

You could work in a pub and chat up the customers.
You could go ice skating or roller skating.
The thing is to be friendly and smiley and chat to girls showing an interest in them that is not just carnal, Have fun with them, offer help and domt talk about sex until there is some kind of serious dating going on, or unless she gives you strong hints that she is interested.

Im in my 20s and looking for female friends. where are the best places to look?I. I have read things about the clubs out in san diego to meet friends there. This is a new concept to me. Im not even much of a clubber. These must be some upscale clubs cause at the clubs where Im from the females are usually petty and envious. and are only there to look for guys. I wouldnt think twice of meeting female friends at a club, where im from. but if there is somewhere in san diego, I should be please let me know. it doesnt have to be a club, other suggestions would help. Im a woman of color and I welcome all races as long as they arent drama, uptight, petty, or a backstabber.

i'm taking an extra year in high school due to slacking last year. it's quite lonely and most of the friends are gone.. they went to other high schools for an extra year and some at uni/college. it's hard to meet people.. by the way i'm 18. it's depressing and i feel so... :( i've been home a lot of the past few months and i'm losing confidence in myself. help? :(

So, after graduating from college, I studied abroad for a year, then moved back in with my parents and found a job after coming home to the US. I am finding life to be insanely lonely... most of my high school and college friends have scattered, so there's nobody close to home to really hang out with. Alright, I go to Purdue. Last year (my freshman year) I knew practically no one. It sucked to say the least. All I can tell you is try to make friends with the people in your classes. Start a convo with someone before class. It makes classes go by a lot faster if you know people in there. Plus you can help each other with homework and studying for exams. Another tip is to get involved in some club. There're a LOT of clubs out there at Purdue, and if you find one about something you're interested in, you automatically have something in common with all the others in the group. This year has been sooo much better for me. I've gotten involved in activities and I feel a lot happier. Try it! Hope that helps!! :)

Ask your counselor if there are dorms that seem to attract certain types IE.. jocks, music students, education, serious studiers or party types. Then choose your poison! I went to IU Bloomington and was very shy but by the end of the year was doing ok.
The other thing to do is rent a room in a large off campus house (not a rooming house!). Choose carefully, meet all the people there and if you're a clean freak check the bathroom and kitchen. Are they friendly of standoffish. Look on the door and you will find an occupancy rate sticker there. Don't put extra people in because the City can evict and fine you!
Join a club-hiking, reading, Latin, film, just pick something you're interested in!
Volunteer somewhere.
Take a ceramics, badminton or fencing class.
Smile and introduce yourself! People are attracted to happy vibes. Don't gush, listen and don't be critical.

I moved to a new state and know nobody so I thought maybe about posting an ad in craigslist to meet striclty platonic friends that share my interests..I'd make it clear in the posting I wasn't here for sex or anything gross..But I'm worried it's unsafe I know, Maybe if I met in a public place it'd be okay? I asked my brother who is very social and has many friends in different places (Seriously, everywhere he goes he makes a lot of friends and hes live in 3 different locations in 3 years) and he tells me if a person doesn't have any friends it's because he/she chooses not to have friends! He told me you have to be outgoing in order to make friends...think about it how else is anyone going to know you exsist if you don't go out there. However, most of these people have now moved on without me and needless to say my ex and I are having less and less contact as he moves on with his life. Increasing your hobbies can work, it works for me, right now i am taking a pottery course, because it's a creative place, people let their gards down and are easy to approach. Oh, and always go to the supermarket when it is crowded and there are long line ups so you can easily start a conversation with other people.

So i go to a really big school. When i first went there i knew NOBODY! and now i know a few kids but no one that I would hang out with and just have a blast. I met some kewl girls i hung out with for a month or so, then they had a whole bunch of problems and stopped talking to me and stuff, when they were the ones to first ask me if i wanted to hang out with them.

When I went to school this year I didn't had someone to sit with. I was olmost crying. I am seing you should go to the person who sits all alon and start talking with him or her. So then when I was in 3rd grade, my friends (they were 5th graders) mentioned they went to sleepaway camp each year and had a blast. So their mom asked if I wanted to go too, (she would talk to my dad) and I was like "Nah, I can't do that!" So the next year, I felt I needed more friends because I was so lonely. I remembered my friend's advice for me to go to Camp NaShoPa. And I went and made tons of friends! We now talk each day. So go to summer camp, meet friends, and write them or call them when you feel lonely. I go to camp every year now!

Recently I logged onto a site, called couchsurfing.com It is supposed to be a site where members from around the world create profiles of themselves then ask if they can either, crash on someone's couch or meet for drinks and site seeing. Where can I meet friends?
Last year I moved into a new area, many of the people are not very friendly, and it's difficult to talk to them because I have social anxiety. So I went on internet sites, I met lots of 'internet friends' however and made regular contact with them, some text me, and told me they 'loved' me. This made me excited then upset as if were case why wouldn't they meet me? I get obsessed about these people, and can't concentrate on my studying and work because I'm thinking about them. I start to get strong feelings for them, and I get more upset because they won't meet me. One person, talked to me for over a year and I found out recently this person was already in a relationship I thought I might have found a geniune friend. I stopped going on the internet but it is very complusive, and if I am not online, I will text or phone them. I am also concerned they may report me for harrasement.

I just moved to texas and i dont know anyone here!!! i moved here with my husband after we were in the military but he didnt keep in touch with friends. We live in Flower MOund right now but are moving to our first house over by Keller in like 3 weeks!! Hello,
Hope someone who uses regularly the SpeedFerries crossing between Dover-Boulogne can help. I have friends who've never been to England before, and I would like to meet them when they disembark from the ferry so they can follow my car for the rest of the trip. I know that when using the Eurotunnel, we get off straight on to the motorway and I wonder if there were any other way to agree on a meeting point. Thank you in advance.

I have never used the speedferry service but assume that it docks at the eastern docks and as far as I know all cars leave the docks on the same road. Unfortunately there are no easy maps to point you to on line but multimap might help a bit. Put in Dover and zoom in to 1:10,000.
There is a car park where you can stay for 20min (or it was last time I was there) for free. Where it is possible to meet.
If you approach Dover from the A2 (Jubilee Way) it swings out over the sea and comes back to land at a roundabout (joining onto the A20).
I think you get to the car park on the 3rd exit. It's where the coaches drop off passengers.
Your friend will come out of the terminal and will have to go back around the same roundabout to find you in the car park (going almost 360 degrees around). The 1st roundabout they come to once leaving the docks.
Sorry that's the best I can do. There's no where easy to meet up if you don't know the area and it'll leave you easy access back onto the A2 and out of Dover.

I only work and go home at 8:30 every night and watch the tube. I am just a normal 19 year old without friends. I want friends to go out with and have fun. I mean friends who are Girls. I dont want to say that I dont have time for friends because that's not it. I just am too tired when I get home from work (10 hours daily). My boyfriend thinks I have no reason not to have friends. im 17 years old and i am homeschooled since the 3rd grade i used to be fine hung out with my cousin often had a really good friend next door and 2 other greats friends in the nieghborhood well then my two friends moved away my cousin was really busy with her bf and my best friend of 15 years was killed in a car crash 8/18/06 now i have no friends at all i go to work 4-8pm come home and do nothing but get online all day alot of teens work where i work but ive only really talked to two of the guys one is very anti christain and im a christian the other is into drugs and partying where can i meet friends? im so lonely and bored my church wont work the youth group there is well...lets just say been there done that i have no idea where to go plus i dont drink i dont smoke and i dont do drugs nor do i hang out with people that do so where can i meet friends? im desperate...
