How to meet Japanese friends?

I'm now studying Japanese and want to meet friends who can speak Japanese. Do you know that is there any opportunities to meet Japanese friends via internet?

Im not very sure how to meet people online. But, I think the best way to pick up and practice and also make Japanese friends is to do a homestay in Japan. Wether it be short or long stay. When just visiting Japan you are marked gaijin (foreign person). But when doing a homestay, you automatically form a relationship with your host family. They will want to introduce you to their friends and if your japanese is really good or you really are serious about learning more then you can make friends of your own quickly. As far as internet, again, I am not very sure. You can join a pen pal site. Or find out if the city you live in has a sister city to Japan and join one their pen pal programs if they have one.


If you are truely serious about making friends abroad, I can give you the website of my Host city and the e-mail of the international system so you can ask them directly for a pen pal. Dont worry, my city's international center is small so you wont get lost in any system and the people are very kind so i think they will help you out and inform you of some of their programs they have for international interconnection. ^_^

Reply:Hmm... I don't know why this never occurs to anybody... why not search for Japanese and then when you see a person who you think might meet your criteria invite them to be your friend? I did exactly what I just said to do and in not time flat I have three new friends who all speak Japanese.
Reply:Try Skype its a messaging program and its free like IM or Yahoo! messenger. You can even call people through the service for free or like 10 cents a minute. Either way I think that should help you out a bit.
