Craigslist posting to meet friends?

I moved to a new state and know nobody so I thought maybe about posting an ad in craigslist to meet striclty platonic friends that share my interests..I'd make it clear in the posting I wasn't here for sex or anything gross..But I'm worried it's unsafe I know, Maybe if I met in a public place it'd be okay? Anyone ever try this and what was the outcome?

Craigslist posting to meet friends?
I was in your situation a few months ago. After making a post, I swapped e-mails with a few people and talked online with a couple too. In the end I only met one person and we didn't become friends in the end.

I made a second post a few weeks later and have made a few friends and met them for dinner, drinks, or coffee.

My advice is go for it. Just make sure that you always meet in public until you know the person and don't get too discouraged if you don't get a good response.
Reply:Did you know there is an Activity Partner section of Craigslist, in the upper left hand side?

Reply:Some lady here in Minnesota just got killed and put in a trunk, because these two guys thought it would be fun.
Reply:To be perfectly honest with you, no I've never done anything like that before. However, I think you do need to be careful because being that you moved to another state where you know no one, means that you don't have any support or back up in case you need help with someone. My advice is; " If it doesn't feel right don't do it at all, trust your gut instinct every once and a while.

Be careful, a lot of women have come up missing because they agreed to meet someone they met on the internet. People often misrepresent themselves when chating online.
Reply:Defenitely start off by talking on the phone for a while. Then, when you meet, meet in public. Do it at a coffee house, restraurant, or a bookstore like B%26amp;N.

If you feel like you can get along with that person. Have more public meetings until you feel absolutely sure that this person is safe.

Craiglist is risky. You should try a different avenue, like Myspace. Reading someones Myspace page will sometimes let you know a lot about them.

Also, make sure to stick with people in your age group.
