Moving to New York City! Where do I meet new friends? Finding a girlfriend?

Hello Yahoo Answerers!


This summer I am moving to New York City to go to CUNY Baruch. I am very concerned about meeting new people and finding a new relationship. I am guessing that I will meet people at college (hopefully - Baruch doesn't have dorms! Will I meet people in classes?)





I am not really into the whole clubbing scene.. plus I am only 17.





Where do I go to meet people?





How do I strike up a conversation? (I feel like such a loser asking this. Its just I have always known my friends I have now for years and its really never been a problem because I meet new friends through my current friends. I just don't know how to randomly go up to somebody and ask for their friendship)





How do you meet the opposite sex in the city?





Any other tips for people just moving in?

depending on where u lived before nyc can be an easy place to move into . we are naturally friendly here so u shouldn't have any problem making friends i do suggest you explore the city (manhatten) because you would find a lot of interesting people there and i'm not sure randomly going up to someone will help and if you wanna meet girls i guess u should go to a restaurant in time square or a bar....i wouldn't really know

Reply:Hey I go to a CUNY school! Baruch has no dorms.The only CUNY school that does have housing is City College which is in Manhattan and also part of CUNY. As to where you can meet people, school is a great place to do so because you already have one thing in common - go to the same school so you can talk about your major, classes, where you're from, what you do for fun, etc. You can really meet people anywhere you go, so try to relax and have fun :)
Reply:Baruch, like many city colleges have people from all age, ethnic, and social backgrounds so as long as you bring an open mind you will find friends. Friends will pop up where you least expect them but they won't knock on your apartment door, well maybe once but not often, so get out there and explore the city! Welcome.
